Tui, la conocida localidad pontevedresa a orillas del Miño y fronteriza con Portugal, tiene Cámara de Comercio. Ubicada en en primer piso de un centrico edificio, me sorprendió gratamente por disponer de una plataforma salvaescaleras rectas en la entrada.

El Ayuntamiento de Antequera, una importante población de mi provincia, de acuerdo con la Coordinadora de Asociaciones por la Integración de Antequera y Comarca (Casiac), quiere aprobar un programa de eliminación de barreras arquitectónicas y de comunicación. Lo dotarán con 50.000 € anuales durante cuatro años. Bien está, aunque si pensamos en pasos de cebra y de semáforos, accesos a instalaciones públicas (el propio ayuntamiento, el pabellón municipal, la biblioteca,…) poco me parece.
¿No será que estamos cerca de las elecciones y que una cosa es hacer el presupuesto y otra muy distinta ejecutar el gasto? En fin, otorgaremos, de momento, el beneficio de la duda.

Durante las vacaciones, hemos tenido la oportunidad de visitar (de nuevo), la encantadora y calurosa Sevilla. Nos ha sorprendido el incremento de número de establecimientos comerciales que brindan facilidades para las personas con problemas de movilidad con respecto a anteriores visitas.
No obstante, en tema de bordillos, un suspenso. En la foto, un salvaescaleras en la entrada a un banco junto al Ayuntamiento de Sevilla. ¡Ah! El personaje de la foto es un conductor de una de esas calesas para guiris que pululan junto a la Catedral.

Quiero reproducir una entrevista de Inma Sanchís con Tomás Castillo, Director de Amica, publicada en el dominical “Magazine” del día 8 de julio de 2007, a propósito de su libro “Déjame intentarlo. La discapacidad: hacia una visión creativa de las limitaciones humanas”. Una lectura altamente recomendable para entender que tener limitaciones en nuestras capacidades es un hecho plenamente humano, que no nos descalifica como tales.
Cuando era un joven estudiante de Psicología no aceptó ideas preconcebidas, cuestion ó esa idea social, que abarcaba el ámbito académico, y que clasifica a las personas en dos grandes grupos: capaces y no capaces; ellos, los que no pueden, y nosotros, los “normales”. Y no lo hizo desde la crítica sino desde la acción, puso en práctica sus ideas. Con el tiempo, Tomás Castillo Arenal (Torrelavega, 1957) fundó la asociación Amica, formada por familiares, profesionales y personas con discapacidad, y cuya idea fundamental es buscar las capacidades de todo ser humano. Como toda las buenas ideas, parece que haya estado ahí desde siempre, pero el recorrido ha sido largo. No fue hasta el 2001 cuando la asamblea mundial de la OMS asumió las ideas de Tomás Castillo, experto de dicha organización, y varió la Clasificación Internacional de Funcionamiento, la Discapacidad y la Salud (CIF), que hoy nos invita a ver que toda persona está cargada de capacidades aunque existan algunas circunstancias que las limiten, pero no por ello la convierten en “discapacitada”, en un ser diferente.
